How to Make Your Home More Eco-friendly
Saving the World One Clean At a Time
As a company who offer commercial cleaning in Stockport, we know that all that most homeowners dream of having a perfect home. However, the definition of a perfect home has changed somewhat in recent years; it no longer just implies somewhere that is stylish and cosy, but one that is also environmentally friendly. As cleaners in Hazel Grove, who use eco-friendly cleaning products, we know that actually it isn’t that difficult to be environmentally friendly. All you have to do is make some small changes, and your home will become a more sustainable and greener space. The great thing about taking any steps towards being more eco-friendly is that you will also be saving yourself some money too! Here are some steps that we, as an office cleaning company in Stockport, have implemented in our own homes to make ourselves greener.
Energy Efficiency
One of the best things you can do to save the planet is to use energy in a more efficient way. For example, unplug any devices and appliances that you are not using at the moment. This may sound like it won’t achieve much, but believe us when we say that devices on standby are real energy suckers. Even if a device is switched off, it will still draw on energy, so the best thing to do is to unplug your kettle, toaster etc. when you are not using it.
Another thing you can do to save energy is to wash your clothes at a cooler setting. Approximately 90% of the energy that is used by a washing machine is used to heat the water up. Research has shown that clothes are fine to be washed at 40c and most washing machines now come with an ‘eco’ setting as well. The only time you might want to use a higher temperature is for bedding and towels, to get rid of any allergens or dust mites.
The third way you can save energy is by replacing your bulbs with LED or CFL (compact fluorescent) bulbs, as older light bulbs can leak up to 80% of their energy as heat. You don’t need to change your light fixtures at all, as most energy efficient bulbs come with different fittings so that you can use them in any type of lamp. Also, don’t put your lamps on too early – throw open your curtains and blinds and enjoy the sunlight for as long as possible!
Use Less Water
Now we are not talking about never having a bath or shower, these are essential things to keep you clean after all! But, little changes such as turning the tap off when you are brushing your teeth can save a huge amount of water. If you are thinking of updating your bathroom, then why not look for a ‘low-flow’ toilet or water saving showerhead too.
Reuse Your Kitchen Waste
Whether you live in an overcrowded urban area, or in the middle of the country, recycling your kitchen waste to make compost is something that everyone can easily do.
These are just some of the ways that you can be more eco-friendly, and Maid2Maid cleaners in Hazel Grove will support you, as we use environmentally friendly cleaning products for as many jobs as we can.
